The five p's should stop this problem before it starts: Prior Preparation Prevents Poor Performance.
But if you do spill paint on an antique, Persian or Oriental rug what should you do?
This is from Sydney's leading Persian rug cleaning company.
Acrylic Paint
1) Apply warm water and blot (do not rub)
2) Use a general carpet cleaning spotter
3) Use a dry carpet cleaning spotter
Oil Based Paint
1) Use a dry carpet cleaning spotter
2) Use a general carpet cleaning spotter
3) Absorbent Powder
So as you can see there are two totally different techniques. If you want he also sells carpet cleaning stain kits that painters can use, so it might be worthwhile if you have gumby apprentice .

If it is anything more then a two kick carpet you need a drop sheet... Two kicks, if the paint is still there, put a drop sheet down.
Just kidding, always put a drop sheet down

Re: Getting Paint Out Of Rugs
I am literally cringing when I see that photo of pain on the carpet! It gives me the shivers it does! And because I've got kids at home, it really isn't a surprise that something like this is a regular occurrence! That's why I keep solvents in storage back home in Sydney. Of course with kids around, it's important to make sure some of the stuff isn't too toxic. Does anyone have ideas what might be a good kid-friendly solvent or carpet cleaner for situations like this?

An eco friendly solvent made from natural plant based ingredients is the Livos brand Svalos #222, great for cleaning up painting tools and thinning, for carpet I would certainly recommend a test spot in an inconspicuous spot first.

I am working on Persian Rug and I need to clean some area I made wrong..I am hesitating to use any spray or chemical as it will remove the original rug colour. If anyone has good experience with any product, do share with me!
