Painting sub-contractors can take action to secure progress payments for work they have performed or goods they have supplied. The Building and Construction Industry Security of Payment Act allows for the adjudication of disputes over progress payments and provides for a fairer and quicker payment system for all parties. Laws now allow sub-contractors who believe they are entitled to a progress payment to seek to 'freeze' payments to a contractor or other entity that engaged them.
