EWP Operator Course
This training program is designed for people who wish to or are required to develop the skills and knowledge needed to operate elevated work platforms up to 11m. Participants may complete singular or multiple machine classes, which is dependent on the type of work they will be undertaking. Machine classes are: Vertical Lift (VL), Scissor Lift (SL), Self Propelled Boom (BL), and Trailer Mounted Boom (TL)
According to WHS Act 2011: Division 2:19.3 an employer must provide information, training, instruction or supervision that is necessary to protect all persons from risks to their health and safety arising from work carried out as part of the conduct of the business or undertaking.
The National Institute of Painting and Decorating has developed an on-line course that allows employers to train their staff to use EWPs located on the job-site. Providing this type of training will assist employers and operators to meet their responsibility under the OHS & WHS Acts where a high risk work licence is not required.
The course has been developed in line with and maps directly to Nationally Recognised Training 'RIIHAN301B-Operate elevating work platforms'. In addition to the above unit, specific industry content has been added to further enhance skills and knowledge.
If you require the use of a boom-type elevated work platform with a height or reach of 11 metres or more, a high-risk licence class WP will be required to operate it.
Participants should be 18 years of age. Operating restrictions apply for those under 18 years of age.
Participants will gain theoretical knowledge and practical skills in:
- Hazard identification, risk assessment & controls
- Fall arrest harness inspection, fitting & use
- Identify safe operating parameters using data plate & manual
- Conduct pre & post operational checks
- Operation of EWP
- Emergency procedures
The lessons are presented using a series of videos and exercises and students are assessed on their knowledge as they go.
Important: Practical training must be provided by the employer or supervisor on-site and evidence in the form of videos and photos must be uploaded onto the e-learning portal.
Upon successful completion of the course you will be issued a Certificate of Completion from the National Institute of Painting and Decorating and a wallet-sized card to show what you have been trained in.
