Funding:

Availability:

Students can enrol at any time, and training/assessment is available anywhere in Australia. Training plans are self-paced, and there is no 'block training'.

RPL Assessment:

Recognition of Prior Learning is available for workers with more than 2 years experience in the industry, and credit is given for any existing tickets, including Confined Space, First Aid, Gas Atmosphere, inhouse-training, or international certificates.

The RPL process involves the following:

1. Self-evaluation. Select which subjects you can do from the list of electives
2. Work History Provide work history for minimum of 18 months
3. Upload evidence Upload any documents such as QA documents, previous certificates, qualifications, cards, tickets; copies of JSA/JHAs you have completed
4. Provide a Reference A qualified person such as a supervisor, NACE inspector or any trade qualified person who has seen your work needs to complete a detailed reference document that states what they have seen you do. At least one reference must be provided, but you can provide more if needed.
5. Photographic evidence. Provide photos or videos of yourself spraying, blasting, mixing two-pack epoxies, setting up blast pots, setting up spray-guns, cleaning spray-guns, testing WFT, power tool cleaning, performing maintenance, and handling and storing coatings safely.
6. Trainer Interview The assessor will interview the you for about 90 minutes and ask you about 80 technical questions about the trade, and about your experience in the industry.
7. RPL Assessment The Assessor will let you know which subjects you have passed and if any additional training is needed.

Duration:

RPL: 3 months to submit all evidence

Traineeship: One month per unit to maximum of 30 months

Theory to be completed on-line (Practical to be completed on job-site)

Minimum entry requirement:

Students must be able to pass literacy and numeracy test (Year 10 equivalent)

To complete this qualification you must be currently working in an industrial blast yard with access to blasting equipment, industrial two-pack epoxies, testing and quality control tools, and conventional and airless spray guns.

Applicants must also have access to a laptop or computer with a web-cam and internet connection.
