NSW Minor Maintenance and Cleaning Licence

You must have a licence before you do any residential building work in NSW, including minor maintenance and cleaning, valued at more than $5,000 (incl GST) in labour and materials.

Minor maintenance and cleaning means non-structural maintenance (including minor repairs) or cleaning of existing works, structures or buildings.

A contractor licence allows you to contract and advertise to do work. You can only do the types of work described on your licence card. Contractor licences can be issued to individuals and to companies and partnerships.

You can apply for a 1, 3 or 5 year contractor licence.

There are three types of Minor Maintenance and Cleaning Licences:

  • Pressure washing/graffiti removal/brick cleaning work Licence
  • Repair, resurfacing or application of a protection coating to bathroom tiles/baths Licence
  • Non-structural repair work Licence

To obtain these licences you need to complete Certificate I in Construction, and the relevant electives. If you have more than 6 months experience in any of these occupations you can complete this qualification via RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning). If you need training we run regular training days at the Best Option Training campus in Villawood, NSW.
