In South Australia, the licensing system is administered by Consumer and Business Services.
To be eligible you must be able to prove you have assets of at least $10,000.
This can be obtained by completing an apprenticeship, or by Recognition of Prior Learning. This course is compulsory for any painters wanting to do wallpapering, or decorative finishes in South Australia, and is the nationally recognised course for painters who want to work in other states besides South Australia. Completion of this course means you do not have to complete an interview with the government to get your licence.
Duration: Painters with a minimum of 4 years experience can complete in 12 weeks.
Painters who do not wish to work in other states, or who do not do any wallpapering or decorative finishes must still complete the Business Management Course. On completion of the course they will still need to undergo a technical interview with the Office of Business and Consumer Affairs.

"It was great to to have online training. Knowledge of the contents has been valuable and easy to understand; always received a positive attitude from the trainer whenever I had issues with online training, I have learnt a lot of knowledge during my course. I would like to join future training and recommend others to go with the Painters Institute." - Gurdeep Singh
